22/03/00 - Murder victim's final meeting
By Essex Evening Echo
The father-of-one who died after being stabbed in Vange had arranged to meet someone on the night he was attacked, murder squad detectives revealed today.
Mobile telephone records are being checked after it was suggested Danny Davis, 24, made a call to arrange a meeting from the Barge pub, in Clay Hill Road, Vange. Detectives believe Mr Davis, of Waldegrave, Basildon, was expecting to meet the people on friendly terms.
It is not yet known whether he met these people as planned - or whether three unknown men came into the picture. Mr Davis, of Waldegrave, Basildon, was stabbed once in the right buttock about 7.30pm on Saturday, February 19, in the car park outside the Barge pub. He was left to struggle 500 yards to his pal's house in Oldwyk, Vange.
He died ten hours later in Basildon Hospital before officers got to interview him. Sgt John Moran said: "Danny was expecting to meet someone that night. But just because a meeting was planned does not mean it took place or that the people he called were responsible for the stabbing.
"Officers are now following up the lead to find out who he did meet. We have requested Danny's mobile telephone records but that will take some time to get through to us. "That will be dealt with when the records come in."
